You will learn the basics of caring for bonsai and receive a starter plant which you will transplant, trim, and learn how to artistically landscape, then take home to enjoy.
Autumn Centerpiece
In this class with Sue Lang and Sheryl Roets (owners of Gallea’s Tropical Greenhouse and Florist) you will create a beautiful autumn centerpiece that will last through the holiday season and into January – perfect for your Thanksgiving table or as a hostess gift. You will use fresh greens and flowers that will make this festive season special, and you’ll learn how to keep the arrangement looking fresh for weeks.

Sue Lang and Sheryl Roets of Gallea’s Greenhouses will guide you in planting a decorative container with a selection of herbs and flowering plants in this hands-on workshop. Take home an edible, fragrant and beautiful accent for your patio or deck. Choose from a wide selection of plants, all materials included.
Everlasting Wreath WorkshopOwners Sue Lang (florist) and Sheryl Roets will guide you in creating a large everlasting wreath using a base of salal (lemon leaf) and baby’s breath (depending on availability) which you will embellish with your choice from a selection of dried, fresh and silk floral materials. Your wreath will last for many months of enjoyment. All materials included.
Fairy GardenSue Lang and Joe Gallea (owners of Gallea's Tropical Greenhouse and Florist) will guide you in building an enchanted and magical Fairy Garden, where it is believed the fairies will come to play and dance among the flowers. Allow your inner child to create this indoor garden for any age, to share for years to come, adding to and changing the landscape over time. Children may attend for free if accompanying a registered adult.
Materials will be supplied: a pot, soil, 2 plants and 1 fairy garden accessory. Special discounts will be available on the night of the class if you'd like to add additional embellishments. Hypertufa WorkshopPat McCullough and Dee Marsh will guide you in creating a hypertufa planter in this hands-on class. Hypertufa is a wonderful medium for planters of all sizes and shapes - you’ll learn the basic techniques to create a great addition to your garden, limited only be your imagination. All materials are included. Class takes place at Gallea’s, 2832 Clover Street, Pittsford NY 14534 (corner of Clover and Jefferson Rd).
Living Wreath WorkshopCreate a wreath of living plants that will grow and become more decorative throughout the season in this class with Sue Lang and Sheryl Roets (owners of Gallea’s Tropical Greenhouse and Florist). Choose from an assortment of succulents and flowering and foliage plants to fill your wreath, which can be used outdoors through the summer and then brought inside. All materials included.
Basic Perennial Gardening WorkshopPat McCullough will discuss the steps for creating a successful garden – how to choose the best perennials for your location, planning for a succession of bloom and season-long color, as well as the basics of care, such as soil, pest control, light and water requirements. You are invited to bring one or more pictures of your garden as it is, as well as pictures and ideas about future plans. Be sure to check what the sun exposure is for the garden.
Seed Starting Workshop
Joe Gallea will walk you step-by-step through the process of growing your own transplants. Learn how to start your seeds to give them a healthy beginning and how to grow them into bountiful plants for your outside gardens. You will plant your choice of a variety of herbs, vegetables and flowering annuals in a domed seedling tray to take home, and you will leave with all the information you need to grow them on, as well as information on transplanting and growing them outside.
Spring Flower Basket
After the long, dark winter, we all need an early sign of spring! Sue Lang (florist) and Sheryl Roets will guide you in planting a basket with bright spring-flowering plants and some interesting small tropicals to brighten your home. All materials included.
Container Herb Garden WorkshopOwners Sue Lang (florist) and Sheryl Roets will guide you in planting a decorative container with a selection of herbs and flowering plants in this hands-on workshop at Warner Castle (5 Castle Park, Rochester, NY 14620). Take home an edible, fragrant and beautiful accent for your patio or deck. All materials included.
Terrarium WorkshopTransform an ordinary glass container into a beautiful living accent for your home in this class with Joe Gallea, co-owner of Gallea's Tropical Greenhouse and Florist. Joe will explain which plants are best for terrariums, show you how to layer the soil with different planting medium so the plants will thrive, provide tips on landscaping your terrarium with unusual stones and describe how to maintain this lush garden with the proper lighting, watering and fertilizing. Bring a glass container to class (or purchase one from an assortment available that night at Gallea's). Materials provided include 3 plants, the planting medium, and decorative stone. There will be a special discount on the night of the class if you'd like to purchase additional materials for your terrarium.
Explore Healing Herbs as East meets West
There are over 4000 Chinese medicinal plant substances that are known to have clinical effectiveness; join Pittsford’s only board certified Chinese medical practitioner, Tennille Richards, MSC, LAC. of LIV Acupuncture (and the folks at Gallea’s), as she explains and explores common botanical western ‘cousins’ to well-known Chinese herbs and their very specific medical uses. We will learn all about the optimal care and growing conditions of these herbs and plants themselves plus their usefulness according to Chinese medicine and TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) treatment principles. We will cover topics such as the immune system, circulation, digestion and inflammation in a very practical way. Also, you will take your understanding of ‘teas’ to a new level while learning about medical decoctions. Owners Sue Lang (florist) and Sheryl Roets will help you create your own indoor herb garden. Learn how to successfully plant and grow winter herbs indoors. Watch as Dick Minoia (owner of Onion Creek Farms) cooks with these herbs in new creative ways. Come, Learn, “Eat Well, Laugh and Enjoy Life”. All materials included
Flowering Container Garden Workshop
Design a beautiful flowering container garden to accent your patio or deck. Joe Gallea will bring containers and a wide selection of flowering annuals and accent plants to choose from. All materials included.
Orchid WorkshopThe beautiful and exotic orchid is often considered a mystery, but many kinds are relatively easy to grow. Joe Gallea, co-owner of Gallea’s Tropical Greenhouse and Florist, will guide you in choosing an orchid plant and, step-by-step, transplanting it using a special orchid pot and soil. Joe will discuss when and how to separate orchids for the minimum amount of stress to the plant, the products available today to fertilize and prevent diseases and insects, and share easy tips for the care and maintenance of your orchid. Different varieties of orchids will be on display for you to examine up-close. This class will answer all of your questions and make you comfortable with your new orchid in your home. All materials (Orchid, pot, soil) included.
Outdoor Holiday Welcome ArrangementDesign a custom arrangement for your front entrance using fresh greens and decorative materials in a holiday pot in this class with Sue Lang and Sheryl Roets (owners of Gallea’s Tropical Greenhouse and Florist). You will create a warm welcome for family and friends that will last outside through the holiday and winter season. All materials included. There will be a special discount on the night of the class if you'd like to purchase additional materials.
